If the web is disturbed by prey or predator too big to deal with these spiders dive down the support spar of their web and hide by headstanding in the grass or leaves near the ground

 

The photograph at the left and below are taken at night and are different females hiding head down in the grass after being disturbed by the torch light.

Hiding during the day these spiders emerge at night to sling their webs across trails and open spaces beneath trees

A young female looks disturbed and anxious but is not yet worried enough to drop to the ground. It seems to be a behavior requiring very extreme fear on the part of the spider.

 

The photo shows the structure of the underside quite well. I originally thought this was a male but the palyps are too small
