One of the more common spiders inhabiting gardens on the east coast of Australia the Saint Andrew's Cross Spider can usually be found hanging in it's web with legs outstretched. The webs can often have a diagonal cross similar to the cross of the patron saint of Scotland woven into their design. Hence the name.
